about

Pale Blue is the alias for Mike Simonetti, one of NYC’s most infamous underground producers, paired with the vocals of Elizabeth Wight. The duo’s seductive EP Have You Passed Through This Night was originally released on Man Power’s Me Me Me label includes a remix by breakthrough Spanish producer Pional. This new version on 2MR includes previously vinyl only tracks Eyes and A Heart Whose Love Is Innocent.

Eyes was an old instrumental that Mike wrote over 5 years ago during a layover at an airport somewhere in Europe. The vocals are from the same recording session as the Pale Blue song “You Stopped Dying”. If you listen closely you can hear it. Eyes was originally released on Me Me Me's compilation entitled “We We We” as a benefit for Help Refugees.

A Heart Whose Love Is Innocent, is named after the famous line of the Lord Byron poem “She Walks In Beauty”, and it is also an older song. The original version did not feature Liz. It was meant to be a Mike Simonetti solo track, and the demo version had a sample of a woman reading the Lord Byron poem. Liz heard the demo version and wanted to remake it. Mike uses poetry in a lot of Pale Blue songs, as well as his solo stuff. Here's a little trivia: Mike was an English major and has a vast knowledge of poetry, and wrote his senior thesis on EE Cummings.

Have You Passed Through This Night is raw and daring, its female vocal reminiscent of innovative early electro, this is an intoxicating late night anthem of leftfield electronica. Its lyrics are taken from the film The Thin Red Line, a movie about man's destruction of nature, his world and himself. Comes Home is equally alluring with a dreamier narrative, and Pional’s remix is stripped back and effortless.

“For these two songs, the inspiration is coming out of the darkness that is inside all of us. It sounds heavy and overbearing, but dance music is the ideal music for escape. It fits perfectly into the Pale Blue agenda. This music was made for a small, dark crowded dance floors, with low ceilings and high hopes. Humanity is bombarded with suffering and pain at every turn - it’s almost like we thrive on it. But we deserve better. These two songs represent part of that struggle - moving towards the light. Take your frustrations out on the dance floor. Throw it all away for the night. The b-side is about coming out of darkness, coming home. Finding euphoria in love and security in one another. Feeling lost in the best way.” -Pale Blue
